How We Must Live After We're Saved

33

With the influx of Gentiles into the early church, there are questions how they must live. Must they keep the law of Moses? Here we see the gracious resolution of the church in James' judgment. His judgment is predicated on Scripture, not on subjective feelings. In any situation, we must run to the Scriptures and see what God says about it. The Gentiles must turn from their idolatrous past. The decision of the church is also predicated on love. The lifestyle of the Gentile Christians can affect for good or for bad how their Jewish neighbors view the Gospel. Although we have freedom in Christ, the law of love trumps our liberty so that no one may stumble. We must surrender our rights for the sake of the Gospel. We must flee from idolatry, because it will destroy. We must renew our minds by the Spirit, by looking to the glories of Christ. What more hath an idol to do in our heart when we are being fed with the glorious Gospel of Christ.
