Anointed and Assured

This sermon completes our series on the Spirit of Life by focussing on the Spirit's work of assuring us of the truth of the gospel. In 1 John 2.19 we read that we have been "anointed" and have all knowledge. This anointing is not with oil but with the Spirit who confirms that God abides in us and we in him and so enables us to obey Christ's command to believe that he is God's Son and to love one another. With this anointing comes assurance that we are indeed God's children and with this assurance comes boldness to love and to uphold and proclaim the truth. Without such an anointing, we could not stand, but with the Spirit at work in us we have the Son and life forever more.
