Overcoming Spiritual Leanness

In this text we find two contrasting spiritual conditions. One anticipates the successful spread of the gospel and leads to songs - even glory to the righteous. The other springs from a soul that is spiritually impoverished and hence the cry 'my leanness, my leanness, woe unto me.' The Lord's table is designed to bring us from the adverse spiritual condition to the desirable one.
