The Moral Law, a Rule of Obedience

Samuel Bolton was a pastor in London before becoming vice-chancellor of Cambridge University and a member of the Westminster Assembly. What follows is the second chapter of his book The True Bounds of Christian Freedom. Here Bolton precisely navigates through Scripture texts which seem patently contradictory, to arrive at a correct understanding of the relationship between the law of Moses and the grace of Christ in the life of a believer. It is useful teaching in our generation, which, for failing to grasp this doctrine, is far too often guilty of clumsily hobbling out of balance between the two extremes of antinomianism and legalism.
