The Superiority of the New Covenant

Main Idea: We must turn to Jesus!

• The superiority of Christ’s sacrifice (11-14)
 Permanence
Old: Same sacrifices offered repeatedly (11)
New: One sacrifice forever (12)

 Completeness
Old: Sacrifices daily—the priest “stands” (11)
New: Sacrifice finished—the Priest “sits down” (12)

 Effectiveness
Old: Could not provide full forgiveness of sins (11)
New: Christ perfects those sanctified (13-14)

• The superiority of our status as the objects of Christ’s sacrifice (15-18)
 God writes His laws on renewed hearts & minds (15-16)

 God remembers our sins no more (17)

 God’s forgiveness terminates the need for offerings (18)

Jeremiah 2:13
...for my people have committed two evils: they have forsaken me,
the fountain of living waters, and hewed out cisterns for themselves,
broken cisterns that can hold no water.

Will you turn from your broken cisterns
to Jesus, the fountain of living waters?
