A New Passover with a Betrayed Messiah

16

Mark 14 shows that as the horrible events of Jesus' passion play out according to God's sovereign plan, he faithfully follows God's purpose to establish a new covenant in a new Passover for his true people through his death for them.

  1. During the Passover meal Jesus
    announces his betrayal according to
    God's plan (14:17-21)

  2. Jesus reinterprets the Passover
bread and cup to signify the sealing
of the new covenant by his death
    (14:22-26)

  3. Jesus foretells the disciples'
    abandonment and Peter's denial
    according to God's plan (14:27-31)

  4. Jesus submits in agony to drinking
    God's cup of suffering (14:32-42)

  5. Jesus us betrayed according to God's
    plan (14:43-52)

  6. Jesus affirms to the Jewish council
that he is God's Messiah and Son
    (14:53-65)

  7. Jesus is denied by Peter three times
    (14:66-72)
