10c. Prayer: Evangelical Mysticism and Prayer, Part 2
Series Fall Lecture Series (Kenya)
In this, the third of a four part lecture series on worship the discussion of Evangelical Mysticism as it applies to prayer – specifically adoration is continued. As an act of acquiescence to the Pentecostal and Charismatic movements many churches have invited mystical worship and practices to enter their congregational times of praise. This has been done for a number of reasons. First – one cannot deny the numbers of people who are attracted to mysticism; Second – evangelicals do not want to be viewed as out of touch with the work of God; Third – evangelicals are adrift as to the doctrines of the Holy Spirit and prayer making them susceptible to mysticism and Fourth – for most evangelicals mysticism is culturally relevant while doctrine is viewed as a thing of the past. These subtle belief systems have so engrained our thinking that before you can move on from teachings on praise you must deal decisively with Evangelical Mystiscm in the modern church.
