In this passage, Christ commends the church in Smyrna. This is one of two churches that does not receive any condemnation from Christ. This church is enduring tribulation, poverty and slander - and circumstances are about to get worse. Yet they are told to remain faithful even unto death, for then the conquerers will receive the crown of life.
