Colossians 2:13-15: Hope through the sacrifice of Christ

  1. A deserved death, 13a

  2. A merciful forgiveness, 13b-14

  3. A sure victory, 15

  4. A deserved death
Baptism speaks of hope. A biblical symbol for hope is the rainbow.
Opposite of hope is darkness. We read about total darkness: dead in sins and trespasses. Why this darkness, what is it, can we escape?
A great wonder: baptising is speaking of new life!

  5. A merciful forgiveness
Blotting out of handwriting: the Father is blotting out.
What has Christ done to fulfil this? That handwriting and also sins were nailed on the cross. This was crucial for forgiving of sins possible. How to receive this blessing?

  6. A sure victory
When an army did win a battle, the army made a triumph tour.
Christ won from every enemy. His victory is sure. That gives hope, also for parents. How to speak about this victory and this hope?
