The Abomination of Desolation

Jesus expected His audience to understand what the abomination of desolation standing in the holy place meant. We see that within the Synoptic Gospels, Matthew and Mark differ from Luke in how they speak about this important sign that Jesus gave to His disciples. The reason for this difference is because of the different audiences that were in view. Luke, unlike the other two, was aiming primarily at a Gentile audience that didn't have the OT background that the Jews had and thus he explained the meaning of these Jewish terms.
