Lectures on Thomas Watson's The Art of Divine Contentment, Chapter 11 Pt. 1

175

We continue with our ninth lecture through our devotion based on Thomas Watson's book, The Art of Divine Contentment. Tonight's lesson began chapter 11, "Divine Motives to Contentment". This long chapter will be covered for a number of weeks in parts: tonight, we looked at Watson's first motive: "Consider the excellency of it", with its seven aspects: 1: "A contented Christian carries heaven about him"; 2: "Whatever is defective in the creature is made up in contentment"; 3: "Contentment makes a man in tune to serve God"; 4: "Contentment is the spiritual arch, or pillar of the soul; it fits a man to bear burdens"; 5: "Contentment prevents many sins and temptations"; 6: "Contentment sweetens every condition"; 7: "Contentment hath this excellency, it is the best commentator upon providence".
