Praise to the Personal God

32

Introduction

• Christ did what is impossible for Any Man to Do, gaining victory over our Spiritual Enemies, just as He Defeated the Enemy of the Children of Israel in the Old Testament (Colossians 2:15)
• The Christian is Now Able to Sing not only the Song of Moses, but also the Song of the Lamb (Revelation 15:3-4)
• Three Stanzas to the Song of Moses

I. The Personal Nature of the Song (vs. 1-5)

A. The word “sing” – Determination to Sing to the Lord Regularly (v. 1)

B. Individual Nature of the Song; Sung Corporately (vs. 1-2)

C. Each of the Personal Acclamations (vs. 2)
• “My Strength” – Our Helplessness (Psalm 18:1-2; 2 Corinthians 12:9; Philippians 4:13)
• “My Salvation” – Our Hopelessness without the Lord (Jeremiah 3:23; Heidelberg Catechism #95; Acts 4:12; John 14:6; Romans 5:2; Ephesians 2:18; cf. Hebrews 10:11-22)
• “My God” – Our Divided Devotion to a Personal God (Zechariah 13:9)
• “My Father’s God” – Our Unworthiness to Call the Lord Our God – A Covenant God (Deuteronomy 4:37)

D. The General Acclamation or Declaration – “The Lord is a Man of War; The Lord is His name” – Defeat and Eternal Damnation for Those Who Oppose the Lord (vs. 3-5; Psalm 24:8; Revelation 19:11)

II. The Omnipotent, All-Powerful Nature of God vs. the Feeble & Vain Determination of Man (vs. 6-10)

III. A Forward-Looking, Prophetic Description of the Establishment of Israel (vs. 11-18)

Conclusion and Application

• Which Side of the Battle Are You On? Oppose the Lord, You will be Defeated
• If You will, by the Grace of God, Acknowledge Your Sin and Come to Christ by Faith Alone, You will be Saved and Will
