Samuel's Early Years

The man Samuel was unique from birth. His mother is a woman of great faith which she bore testimony of by both her words and deeds.

As she fulfills her vow and gives her long-awaited son to the Lord, her focus is riveted on God. Her song of dedication is note worthy for what she says and doesn't say! She makes no mention of her personal feelings about leaving her son at the temple with Eli, the priest, whose own sons haven't turned out so well. She exalts the character of her God and proclaims her confidence in Him.

The character of Samuel sharply contrasts the character of Eli's own sons. Severe judgment will come upon Eli and his sons when they will both die on the same day and the impact will carry clear through to the millennial reign of Christ.

Chapter three gives the details of the prophetic call of Samuel and will begin with a devastating message of judgment upon the man whose tutelege he has grown up under. Eli's sons have brought judgment upon themselves and Eli is held responsible because he didn't rebuke them.

Lessons from this study include:

1. Our hearts and minds should be occupied with the greatness of God and His character.
2. Our worship of God must be in accord with His instructions.
3. Sin hardens agains reproof in preparation for judgment.
4. God's blessings bring responsibility.
5. We must put no one before the Lord.
6. Children bear the responsibility for their sin, as do parents.
7. Sin can't be undone.
