Israel Likened to Children in the Markets

71

Jesus compared the generation living in his day to how children sat in the marketplace jeering to their own. On the one hand, John the Baptist lived an austere life and the Jews said he had a devil. On the other, Christ ate and drank and they called him a gluttonous man and a winebibber. No matter what either of them did they were displeased. Also the Lord chided Corazin, Bethsaida, and Capernaum for their unbelief saying, that if His mighty works had been done in Tyre, Sidon, or even in Sodom, they would repented long ago. The chapter ends with Jesus' invitation to come unto him and he would give them rest; to take His yoke them because it is easy and His burden is light.
