This Body of Death

“O wretched man that I am!” “Who will deliver me from this body of death?” This is the anguishing cry of the true believer in Jesus Christ; the one who has known His power to save already at work in God's having regenerated his sinful, fallen heart. He has indeed been rescued from the “corruption that is in the world through lust” (2 Peter 1: 4) But now he has come to realize that even though Christ has brought him out of darkness and into his marvelous light, and even though He has given him many precious and magnificent promises, and even though He has a New Heart and has been set free from sin; he is no longer a slave to sin; that still he has this “body of death” with him.
