No Other Name By Which We Must Be Saved
Series The Book of Acts
43
What a scene Luke paints for us! Two redneck hillbilly fishermen in rumpled clothes asked to defend their actions and words before 71 of the most influential and authoritative men in Jerusalem.
The question they are asked to answer is: 'By what name do you do and say such things.' The council, presuming that anyone with a name that could grant such authority, is seated in the council before them, is astonished at the thunderous response that comes from these two men.
At the end of the exchange, one sees that all the authority in the room rests not with the highly educated and esteemed Jewish council - but with two Galilean fishermen who had been with Jesus.
