This is a holiday weekend. Tomorrow is Memorial Day. For many people Memorial Day is the unofficial start of summer, the gateway to all of the outdoor recreational activities that we enjoy in the warmer months. But it's more, much more. Memorial Day is a day of remembrance, a patriotic holiday. It began during and after the Civil War as "Decoration Day", so named because women decorated the graves of soldiers who had fallen in combat. Originally observed at different times in different states, over time its observance was standardized and after WW 1 was expanded to honor those who gave their lives in every American war. Memorial Day is a day to pause, remember those who gave their lives to secure our freedoms, and to be thankful. Today is also Sunday, the Lord's Day. Every Sunday is spiritually a Memorial Day, a time to pause, remember the death, burial and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ who died to set us free from sin, and to be thankful. Today we want to move closer to that place where we can most clearly see the love of God for lost sinners. We want to move closer to the cross...
