Psalm 61

74

The Rock that is Higher than You
Psalm 61

Introduction

• The ‘psychology' of the first sin (Gen. 3:6)—an inward turn

• David's starting point (vv. 1-2; Psa. 102:1)—a ‘covered' or overwhelmed heart

I. Pray to be Led to the Savior (v. 2b)

“Behold, I lay in Zion a stumbling stone and rock of offense, and whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame.” Rom. 9:33, cf. Isa. 28:16

“For they drank from the spiritual Rock that followed them, and that Rock was Christ.” 1 Cor. 10:4

II. Look to His Past Faithfulness (vv. 3-4)

III. Look to Your Covenant Heritage (vv. 5-7; 2 Sam. 7:12-14)

Conclusion (v. 8)
Pray to be led to Christ, believing that God will hear your prayer. Look to His past mercies and grace; worship Him, having a commitment to the means of grace. Look to Christ your King, your covenant heritage and serve Him by keeping your vows and serving others.
