Our Certainty Here Below

111

If you are going to buy an expensive watch, it is important to know the difference between one that is genuine and one that is fake. With Christianity, this is also true. When you face death, nothing else matters. What would convince you that it is safe for you to die? Would you feel safe is an angel came to convince you of your salvation? What would happen then, asks Einstein, if, as you breathe your last, that angel turns out to be Satan, deceiving you? We need something more certain. We need the facts of the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus for us. Guilt over sin will constantly return to accuse the true believer, but this certainty of saving grace constantly drives Christians back to a pure life in Christ. The justified saint will pursue sanctification because sanctification is the result of justification. Certainty produces holiness and joy.
