Wisdom to walk in God's will

Paul, in this comprehensive and balanced petition, has prayed for nothing less than that the saints of God be filled to overflowing with the knowledge of the divine will. He now includes those particular qualities that are required in order to put such a knowledge of God's will into practice: all wisdom and spiritual understanding.

Wisdom and understanding are defined, their necessity, profit, and presence of absence in our lives identified, and their heavenly origin made clear. These are things for which we must earnestly pray, as given by the Lord Almighty, and for which we must prayerfully employ the means he has provided in order that we might attain them.
