Tarrying in Troas

Because he followed the leadership of the Holy Ghost, the Apostle Paul finds himself, tarrying in Troas, a place he didn't intend to be in. What would have happened if he had been disobedient or followed his own will instead of God's will? Would Christianity have ever been spread throughout the world? What do we do if we find ourselves tarrying in Troas?
