Behold the Lamb of God

151

John the Baptist came to prepare the way for the Messiah and to be a witness to Jesus Christ. As he saw Jesus walking by, John cried out "Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!"

"Behold" means more than merely "Look". This is a command to stop and pay full attention; a bit like when a teacher blows a whistle in the noisy playground. The word "behold" implies that we observe and perceive something, such as in the sentence "She looked into his eyes and beheld madness". John is calling on us to recognise the One in whom repentance and salvation is found. There is no other name under Heaven by which we may be saved. Have you beheld the Lamb of God, who truly takes away the sin of those who come to Him?

Main Headings:
1: The meek and gentle lamb
2: The Passover lamb
3: The lamb of God
4: Taking away the sin of the world
5: What must we do?
