Systematic Theology for Sheep: Salvation 2

** Ordo Salutis = The Order of Salvation. Simply describes the various vocabulary of the Bible that describes God's activity in saving a person. The primary thing to understand is that you are either saved or not. Knowing the order and theological pattern simply helps us understand God in helping us appreciate his work in saving us.

• ELECTION, PREDESTINATION (two weeks ago)

• CALL

  • General outward calling for sinners to repent;
    proclamtion of the Gospel:
    -- Acts 17:30-31; 2 Corinthians 5:20
  • Inward call (supernatural) to those God elected:
    -- 1 Corinthians 1:24; John 6:44; Acts 16:14
    -- John 10:27-38; 2 Thessalonians 2:14

• REGENERATION

  • known by phrase "born again"; given a new heart
    -- Titus 3:5; John 3:3,7; John 1:12-13
    -- 1 Peter 1:3-5; 1 Peter 1:23; James 1:18

• CONVERSION?

  • Do we accept Jesus or make a decision?

• REPENTANCE

  • Turning from any security/hope in self to Christ
  • Changing of mind
    -- Acts 20:21; Matthew 3:2, 4:17; Mark 6:12
    -- 2 Corinthians 7:9-10
    -- Understanding of danger of sin;
    offensiveness of sin to God and understanding
    of God's mercy
    -- Acts 5:31, 11:18; 2 Timothy 2:25

• FAITH

  • hand-in-hand with repentance
  • Repentance in turning from sin = faith turning to God
    Repentance in letting go = faith in clinging to
