All Scripture Is Profitable (Part Two)

49

Introduction: What is your primary communication device? Can it also function as a transformational device?

Main Point. What did the Apostle Paul mean when he used the phrases "the Holy Scripture" and "all Scripture" in his letter to Timothy (i.e. 2 Timothy 3:15-17)? Why is it vitally important that God's revelation is written down and can be read and studied?

I. What did the phrase "all Scripture" mean to the original audience (i.e Timothy and those with him)?

A. Most definitely the Old Testament (cf. Luke 24:25-27; 44-49)

B. Possibly also the Gospel of Luke (cf. 1 Tim 5:18)

C. Possibly also the letters of the Apostle Paul (cf. 2 Peter 3:15-16)

II. Why is it important that God's revelation be written down (i.e. Scripture)?

A. Because He commanded it to be written (example: Exodus 17:14; 24:4; 34:27-28)

B. Because He wrote it Himself (Exodus 24:12; 34:1)

C. Because of the nature and importance of His relationship with His redeemed people.
III. How can the Scriptures be your primary communication device in your relationship with God?

IV. How can the Scriptures be the primary transformation device for your life?

Conclusion: The Scriptures are not only inspired by God but He gave them to us for His glory and our good. Through the presence and power of the Holy Spirit, they are a powerful means through which God saves and sanctifies His beloved people and prepares them for glory.
