Exile and Beyond

If you ever feel like you are coasting spiritually, the book of Haggai is for you. If you truly want to see Jesus but find that your desire for God is sometimes trumped by more worldly interests, the book of Haggai is for you. If you want to believe that you are part of a wonderful plan of God but don't always know where you fit, the book of Haggai is for you.

The prophecy of Haggai—along with his contemporaries Zechariah and Malachi—are God's last words before the coming of Jesus. Like John the Baptist these post-exilic prophets prepared the way for the Lord. What these last three OT prophets said would hang in the air for 400 years of silence prior to coming of John.

His message comes to a people waiting for the coming of Jesus who had become distracted from God's most basic command to put him first. We can relate.
