It's Not Fair

128 ( 112 | 16 )

Sometimes, life can seem unfair. We might think we've been given a raw deal, or that someone else has benefitted from our hard work. Perhaps we see liars, cheats and thieves prosper and get away with it, whilst we, endeavouring to be honest and faithful, barely get by. Psalm 37 addresses this very dynamic and exhorts us not to fret, nor to get angry or envious when we see the wicked prosper. Their ill-gotten gain will not last, and they themselves will soon fade like the grass.
Instead, we are instructed to "trust in the Lord, and do good." As we commit our way to the Lord and delight in him, he will act towards us for our good, and "bring forth our righteousness as the light."
When we feel hard done by, it can be tempting to follow the way of the wicked for fear of missing out altogether, or simply because we think we deserve a break. Don't! It won't be worth it. The wicked will perish. Their future will be cut off. But the salvation of the righteous - those who live by faith - is from the Lord. It lasts forever! We will not preserve ourselves any longer through wicked schemes or ill-gotten gain. Only that which the Lord gives lasts forever. So don't fret. Trust in the Lord, and he will act.
