In this message, Pastor John takes us through the 4th chapter of Acts. This is where we find the 1st arrest, trial, and interrogation of Peter & John. We will look at their response, the rulers’ deliberation and the sentencing.
It gets real interesting when we hear John & Peter’s response to those who are in authority. Filled with the Holy Spirit, Peter told the rulers to consider whether it was right for them to obey God or those rulers.
After their release from custody we learn Holy Resistance to Earthly Powers! We also learn God’s response to their defiance of the earthly powers. His Holy Spirit came upon them!
Each of us must be prepared to resist earthly powers whenever their commands are contrary to God. This is an important aspect of our walk as followers of Christ. We must never bow to human rulers in the church or civil government when they oppose our Creator.
Our heavenly Father gives His people the words to say when challenged by human authorities. Jesus said, “when they bring you unto the synagogues, and unto magistrates, and powers, take ye no thought how or what thing ye shall answer, or what ye shall say: For the Holy Ghost shall teach you in the same hour what ye ought to say.” (Luke 12:12)Jesus taught His followers to “be not afraid.”
Each of us can heed His advice and do what is right in the sight of God. Pray for Holy boldness to confront the hard truths even when human authorities forbid you from doing so. Pray for almighty God to use you to bring Him glory. Pray for Him to use you to bring Him souls that He purchased. After all, that is the whole purpose of your existence in Christ.
