The Beatitudes

Jesus was the total opposite of the king they were waiting for. Instead of leading a rebellion and promoting violence as the way to obtaining the kingdom, he came preaching that the “Meek would inherit the earth.” And not only did he call his followers to be meek, he himself was admittedly meek:

Christ did not react in self-defense or pride or with vengeance, but instead with self-control and meekness submitted to the Father’s will for him.

  1. What is Meekness?
    “gentle”, “mildness of disposition” or “gentleness of spirit.”

    Self-control characterizes the meek person

b. 1 Timothy 6:11 – Pursue it.

c. Titus 3:1-2 – Show it to everyone.

d. Galatians 6:1 – Use it in restoration.

e. 2 Timothy 2:25 – Use it in correcting opponents of sound doctrine.

  1. Conclusion: They shall inherit the earth.
