You Shall Not Bear False Witness

The Gospel of the Kingdom - Message 33 - You Shall Not Bear False Witness - Matthew 5:33-37. The fourth contrast between the Pharisees' false interpretation of the law involves the commandment "You shall not bear false witness." Their understanding and application restricted this law to only the external and outward rejection of perjury. Jesus however demonstrates the deceitfulness of the human heart and the danger of lies and of minimizing and abusing the truth. As believers we should tell the truth and be trustworthy and believable at all times without the need to stress truthfulness by use of an oath. We should say what we mean and mean what we say.
