The Lord Will Rescue Me From Every Evil Deed
Main Idea: We must glorify Christ for rescuing us!
• Christ will judge opponents of the Gospel (14-15)
Alexander did great harm to Paul (14a)
The Lord will repay him (14b)
Beware of him! (15a)
He strongly opposed the Gospel message (15b)
• Christ will strengthen proclaimers of the Gospel (16-17)
Everyone deserted Paul at his first trial (16a)
Paul had compassion for the deserters (16b)
Christ stood by and strengthened Paul (17a)
Purpose of Christ’s support of Paul (17b)
That the Gospel be fully proclaimed
That all the Gentiles might hear the Gospel
• Christ will rescue proclaimers of the Gospel (17c-18)
In the past: from “the lion’s mouth” (physical death) (17c)
In the future: from hell (spiritual death) (18ab)
From every evil deed (18a)
For His heavenly kingdom (18b)
• Paul’s doxology to Christ (18c)
To Him be the glory forever and ever. Amen (18c)
