Lesson 16
2 Timothy 4:14-18

The Lord Will Rescue Me From Every Evil Deed

Main Idea: We must glorify Christ for rescuing us!

• Christ will judge opponents of the Gospel (14-15)
 Alexander did great harm to Paul (14a)
 The Lord will repay him (14b)
 Beware of him! (15a)
 He strongly opposed the Gospel message (15b)

• Christ will strengthen proclaimers of the Gospel (16-17)
 Everyone deserted Paul at his first trial (16a)
 Paul had compassion for the deserters (16b)
 Christ stood by and strengthened Paul (17a)
 Purpose of Christ’s support of Paul (17b)
That the Gospel be fully proclaimed
That all the Gentiles might hear the Gospel

• Christ will rescue proclaimers of the Gospel (17c-18)
 In the past: from “the lion’s mouth” (physical death) (17c)
 In the future: from hell (spiritual death) (18ab)
 From every evil deed (18a)
 For His heavenly kingdom (18b)

• Paul’s doxology to Christ (18c)
 To Him be the glory forever and ever. Amen (18c)
