Now Is Christ Glorified!

69 ( 58 | 11 )

Jesus had just predicted his betrayal. We are right at the end of his earthly ministry. The Scripture has just made the statement that it is dark. Yet it was the time Jesus would be glorified. We would say the power of darkness has the upper hand but yet Jesus says now this is not defeat but the hour when Jesus would be glorified and victorious. In this message then, we examine Christ's glorification:

  1. Christ's glorification would result in his departure
  • the Son glorifies the Father by fulfilling the plan of the Father
  • It is true Christ's glorification would result in his suffering but that is not all there is
  • the Father now glorifies the Son and exalts him to reign over all (i.e. over his people whom he delivered and his enemies who put him to death)
  1. Christ's departure would result in a command
  • The disciples could not follow Christ as they had since he was now leaving
  • So he gave disciples a command: to love one another
  • Christ's presence had been the identifying mark of his disciples
  • now that he is gone physically, he gave a new mark by which his disciples would be identified
  • we are to keep Christ's love before us and love others with Christ's love
