Lose Your Life for Christ

"For whosoever will save his life shall lose it...." (Mark 8:35a)

Peter didn't see God's ultimate end in Christ's suffering, hence Peter's rebuke of Christ in verse 32, 33. Peter was concerned for his, and Christ's safety, and Christ tells Peter that he does not savor the things that are of God.

The Lord then goes on to explain that our lives are not our own; we are to deny ourselves and take up our cross and follow Him. This is mentioned in the context of eternal life, therefore it is of the utmost importance that it be understood rightly.
