A Song for Seeking God (Psalm 27)
Series Psalms
Psalm 25 confessed the guilt and shame of the Psalmist – asking God to pardon my guilt and forgive all my sins – but it ended with confidence: "may integrity and uprightness preserve me, for I wait for you" And that same confidence remained at the heart of Psalm 26: David's prayer for vindication – that God would declare him innocent – so that he might dwell in the house of the LORD forever.
These themes all continue in Psalm 27. But it's not just the same song over and over again. There was the song of the lonely in Psalm 25 – the song seeking vindication at God's altar in Psalm 26 – and now a song of the One Seeking God in Psalm 27. They are all connected, but each song focuses on a different aspect of Christian experience.
And, as we keep seeing over and over, the reason why these are different aspects of Christian experience is because they were first different aspects of Christ's experience. We sing Psalm 27 because Psalm 27 was first true for Jesus.
