Jacob's Exile in Haran

Isaac was the first covenant heir, but his son Jacob played a more prominent role in the history of Abraham's covenant family, first and foremost because he was the direct source of the nation of Israel and the first to bear that name. The book of Genesis attests Jacob's preeminence by devoting half of its content to telling his story.
