Chronicles: United for Worship

115

Chronicles gives hope to the exiles expelled from the Promised Land due to their sin. God is still with them, and he has work for them to do. Chronicles calls God's people ("all Israel") to reunite for their appointed task—return to God's city, rebuild his Temple, and restore the LORD's worship. Worship is a central focus of the book, emphasizing David and Solomon's roles in building the Temple in Jerusalem and uniting "all Israel" together in worship. It is in this work that God's people will find healing. That healing will only come through repentance and faith. The LORD's message to Solomon becomes a clarion call for the reader, "If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land" (2 Chr 7:14). In every age, healing comes through the humility of repentance and faith (Acts 3:19-21; Jas 4.8-10). Today, united by Christ, Christians share this temple building legacy (e.g., Eph. 2:10-22; Rom. 12:1-8), and "every member" is needed (cf. Eph. 4:16; Rom. 12:1-8).
