A New Israel, A New Exodus

Jesus, having proved that He obtained victory over Satan in those same temptations in which Israel failed (and is therefore the New and True Israel) now shows that His new people begin in the same way as Old Israel - with an exodus from slavery. As Moses goes to Egypt after living in the wilderness, so Jesus goes to the place of spiritual darkness - Galilee of the Gentiles - to deliver His people from spiritual slavery. Where God sends His light is up to God, and He often sends it where men live in the greatest darkness.
