Depression and the Believer, Part 20 – My Own Sinfulness and the Light

Depression is a matter of what we think in our minds. God's Word tells us to watch over our hearts with all diligence, for from it flow the springs of life. This tells us that how we think establishes our life in one way or another. A renewed mind is a mind that is centered in the truth of God's Word. It is this truth in the innermost being that God desires and that gives us true joy as we are encouraged by what is true and protected from what is false. This week we begin to look at the sad and awful reality of our own sinfulness. There is a battle that rages every day in the believer between the flesh and the Holy Spirit. The more we see our own innate rebellion against the God we have come to love, the more we are both humbled by His wonderful grace to us and overcome by our own willfulness and sinfulness. As God's light penetrates the darkness of our souls, we come to loathe our own flesh and love Him for His grace to such as we are.
