The Seduction of Self-focus

We are the "ME" generation intent on finding our own self-fulfillment, self-satisfaction, and self-direction. It's ME FIRST! One of our adversaries tactics is to seduce us into focusing on ourselves-- our happiness, our plans for our lives, our well-being-- rather than focusing on God's plans and the needs of others. We try to save our lives, but in the process we lose. For true joy and fulfillment is not found in doing what we want to do but rather in doing God's will in serving others. Putting God first and then others next results in genuine happiness. But to do so means we must make some hard choices in how we choose to live and the things we choose to do. And these hard choices must be made on a daily basis. Every day we must take up our 'cross' in order to follow Jesus. Our adversary knows the power of commitment, and that's why he seduces us to focus on ourselves rather than on God and others.
