The King and His Adversary, Part 1

If Jesus is to be King of a new Israel, then He must show that He is better than old Israel. The old nation of Israel, and its people, failed and sinned when tempted in the wilderness. They were hungry, and doubted God. Jesus shows that He is sinless, conquering the Tempter, and fulfilling the role that national Israel could not. Those, then, who would be part of this new Israel must demonstrate the same kind of faith as Christ - though not perfect. We must value God's word above even our life.
