Spiritual birth, regeneration, quickening or new birth refer to the act of God whereby He enters into the inner man. Regeneration is distinct from effectual calling but it's essential to it. The Holy Spirit enlightens the mind, energizes the affections and moves the will to embrace Christ. Regeneration is one-time, life-giving and apart from man's will.
