The "Wisdom" of Bildad

25

Bildad also appeals to ancient wisdom, but goes a step farther than Eliphaz. God, according to that ancient wisdom, is a just God, and always punishes sin. He never perverts justice. So Bildad comes to the same basic conclusion as Eliphaz: Job is suffering, therefore he must be guilty. Solution? Repent. But again, the cause of Job's suffering is not his sin. It is true that God is just. It is true that He punishes, and will punish, sin. Bildad forgets God's mercy and forgiveness and therefore gives Job bad advice. Never forget the mercy and forgiveness of God, offered to sinners in Jesus Christ.
