A Crisis of Belief

Jesus and His disciples have moved on from Sychar, the woman at the well and the great awakening that occurred in the city. Now, they arrive in Galilee where Jesus saves a boy from physical death. But his sickness leads to something greater - the salvation from spiritual death in his father – a nobleman - and his whole family. This is the second “sign” or miracle in the Gospel of John designed to show us why we ought to believe in Jesus. The most powerful gift you can ever get is the gift of belief – like this nobleman, “The man believed,” v50. In these verses we see how a whole family, living among an unbelieving people, experience a crisis of belief that leads to their salvation.
