Matthew 13 is the third of Jesus’ five discourses to his disciples (chs. 5–7; 10; 13; 18–20; 24–25). In this discourse we begin Jesus’ parables about the kingdom of God, which I have previously described as that rule of God and the relationship with God that exists in heaven in the presence of God but that now comes to earth in the coming of Jesus.
