Evidences of the New Birth
27
Perhaps the greatest tragedy resulting from the modern methods of “evangelism” is the great number of empty professions of salvation.
Throughout this community, and perhaps even under the sound of my voice there are those who have followed the Roman Road but have never followed Christ. They have repeated a prayer, but never spoken with God. They have written their name on the back of a tract, but their name has never been called the Good Shepherd.
Yet they are trusting that when this life ends all will be well. This is without controversy the saddest of all situations. And to further the already tragic situation is the fact that they will quickly become offended when one challenges the legitimacy of their conversion.
