Church and State

America’s Founders strongly believed that there should be no national church denomination, as they had experienced in England. They codified this belief in the First Amendment, keeping the federal government out of the affairs of the church, and of its members.

But in recent decades, this idea has been twisted into the so-called “separation of church and state,” a phrase that appears nowhere in the Constitution.
