The Parable of the Ten Virgins 1

425

The Great 17th century Puritan Preacher, founder of Harvard University and Minister at Cambridge in New England Thomas Shepard, stated that every Christrian, being by nature, 'sons of death', 'make
it our own business to be in continual care to make ready, that we might have a good meeting with Him who shall be seen in the air one day.'

His 635 page volume on the Parable of The Virgins is a classic. Yet, for all its splendor, lessons, use and
glory, it is not as it should be, i.e. a postmillennial dissertation. Today we examine afresh the parable, using
some of the light of Shepherd's wondrous insight, but as it was meant by Our Lord, so that we too may be
ready at His appearing.
