The Gifts of Grace

When I reflect on all that Christ has done in order to conquer sin and death, I am struck by His remarkable grace toward us. Typically, when a king conquered an enemy, the release of the enemy ruler's captives inspired them to give gifts to the king who set them free. When returning home, it was customary for the returning king to lead a procession of former captives who poured out gifts to the king with grateful hearts. Our King Jesus is different. He set us free from our enemy and showered US with gifts of grace besides.

Who ever heard of such a thing? Not only have we received freedom from the tyranny of Satan, sin and death, but we have also been graciously bestowed with gifts of the Spirit in order that the Church might be strengthened and built up. Each one uniquely gifted and equipped to serve in the Body of Christ until His return. What a great blessing!
