B. The King's Throne (Psalm 11:4a)

  1. The LORD is in His holy temple.
    a. The phrase "holy temple" can point to the earthly place of God's abode or to heaven itself.
    (1) However, when the Lord is in His holy temple it signifies a time when: The Lord is witness against the people of the earth (Micah 1:2)

(2) when the Lord is in His holy temple it signifies a time when: The earth should keep silence before Him (Habakkuk 2:20)

  1. The LORD'S throne is in heaven (Psalm 103:19).

a. The Lord is the highest judge sitting on the highest throne in the highest court.
b. This is not a future kingdom passage where the Lord's throne will be in Jerusalem.

C. The King's Judgment (Psalm 11:4b-6)

  1. Toward all (Psalm 11:4b)
    a. His eyes behold
    b. His eyelids try
    c. Note: Not only does the Lord see all things, but what He sees moves Him to judgment. (Proverbs 15:3)
  2. Judgment toward the righteous—"The LORD trieth the righteous" (ABOVE Psalm 11:5a)
  3. Judgment toward the wicked (NEXT Psalm 11:5b-6) (Psalm 75:8)
    a. Their description (Psalm 11:5b)
    (1) The wicked
    (2) Him that loveth violence
    b. Their despising—"his soul hateth" (Psalm 11:5b)
    c. Their destruction (Psalm 11:6)
    (1) The raining of snares, fire and brimstone, and an horrible tempest.
    (2) This shall be the portion of their cup.

a) The cup of his fury (Isaiah 51:17, 22; Jeremiah 25:15)
b) The cup of astonishment and desolation (Ezekiel 23:33)
c) The cup of his Indignation and fierceness and wrath (Revelation 14:10; Revelation 16:19)
d) The Lord Jesus Christ suffered all of this for us by drinking the cup of God's judgment.
D. The King's Delight (Psalm 11:7)

  1. His character—"the righteous LORD"
  2. His love—"loveth righteousne
