I. THE THREAT TO SOCIETY (Psalm 11:1-2).

A. The Confidence of the Righteous (Psalm 11:1)

  1. Who gave the advice to "flee as a bird to your mountain"?
    (1) Friends of David
    (2) Enemies of David
    (3) David to himself with his friends or enemies?
    (4) The plural pronouns indicate that it was not the Lord who spoke.
    b. To whom was it said?—"to my soul"
  2. The answer of the righteous—"In the LORD put I my trust"

• The most important thing a person does in life is to trust in the Lord: for salvation (Ephesians 1:12)
• Following salvation, everyone should trust in the LORD for direction—God will direct your paths
• The Psalmist pled for salvation and deliverance from persecutors as he trusted in the Lord (Psalm 7:1)
• The Psalmist pled for preservation as he trusted in the Lord (Psalm 16:1)
• The Psalmist pled not to be ashamed as he trusted in the Lord (Psalm 25:20)
• The Psalmist pled to be delivered in God's righteousness as he trusted in the Lord (Psalm 31:1)
• The Psalmist did not fear what man could do as he trusted in the Lord (Psalm 56:4)
• Repeated again in the same Psalm— No fear of what man can do when trusting in the Lord (Psalm 56:11)
• The Psalmist pled not to be put to confusion as he trusted in the Lord (Psalm 71:1)
• The Psalmist knew that trusting in the Lord was a lifelong endeavor. (Psalm 71:5)
• The Psalmist knew that trusting in the Lord enabled a person to testify concerning all of God's works. Those who have never experienced God cannot declare His works. (Psalm 73:28)
• The Psalmist pled that his soul not be left desolate as he trusted in the Lord (Psalm 141:8)
• The New Testament has the same promises and God's expectations have not changed. (Hebrews
