Counterfeit Faith

How is Saul an example of a reprobate? Why did the LORD purpose that the slaying of animals be done in a very particular way, what was the slaying to remind the people of? How can one say something with Truth in it yet not have entered into the Truth? What did Saul do that was against God's will and why did he do it? Why must you have Light to discern a counterfeit?
